Sri Lanka explores Digital Identity Council for citizen data

(2017/03/31): Sri Lanka seeks to establish a Digital Identity Council to implement the national policy on collection, storage, sharing and use of citizens’ personal data utilizing a National Authentication Platform.


European Commission published list of alternative processes for QSCD certification

(2017/03/30): As long as the pertinent standards for protection profiles for Qualified Signature (or Seal) Creation Devices (QSCD) are not available yet, Article 30 (3) lit. b) and Article 39 (2) of the eIDAS Regulation allow that the certification is performed according to alternative processes. The European Commission has published a list of alternative processes, which were notified by the European Member States.

Federal German government approved law for eIDAS implementation

(2017/03/29): Today the federal German government approved the draft of the law for the implementation of the eIDAS regulation (“eIDAS-Durchführungsgesetz“), which also has been submitted to the European Commission for notification.


High Level Scientific Advisors recommend Attribute-based Identity Management

(2017/03/24): On Friday, 24 March 2017, the former Director-General of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and Chair of the High Level Group of Scientific Advisors, Rolf-Dieter Heuer, submitted to the European Commission the Group’s 2nd Scientific Opinion on Cybersecurity in the Digital Single Market. Among the recommendations is to “respect privacy, promote the development and context-tailored use of attribute-based digital identity management.”
